Get to Know: A Wider Circle
A Wider Circle is a wonderful local organization helping citizens of the Greater Washington area to create stable homes, develop working skills, revitalize neighborhoods, and create greater awareness and engagement in the community. Their aim is to “end poverty through on-the-ground programs and services, as well as through the development of large-scale solutions to its root causes.” A Wider Circle runs multiple robust programs out of their 38,000-square foot center which is run by 60 staff members, 15 university interns, and more than 30,000 volunteers each year.
Through the Essential Support Services Program, A Wider Circle is able to furnish the homes of more than 16,000 adults and children each year. In order to take advantage of this program, people can schedule an appointment to visit the Center for Community Service and can select the items they need, free of charge.
A Wider Circle not only offers food and household items to those in need, but also offers workforce development programs and runs a Professional Development Center to serve over 3,000 people a year. Some programs include resume and cover letter writing, interview skills, job search and application assistance, and career counseling. Regardless of whether or not individuals are enrolled in these classes, they have the opportunity to browse an impressive showroom with workplace attire and accessories and choose items at no cost.
The Tamara Kucik Team has deep ties to A Wider Circle in more than one way. The first connection is with A Wider Circle’s Director of In-Kind Donations, Janet Dailey. Janet used to be a member of the Tamara Kucik Team, and maintains our strong connection with A Wider Circle by organizing volunteer opportunities for our team. As a team, we enjoy spending an afternoon with A Wider Circle helping families in need in whatever way we can.
In addition, every spring and fall the Tamara Kucik Team hosts the annual Go Green Day event, in which A Wider Circle is a partner. Every year people in our community bring documents to shred, items to donate, and items to recycle to clear out their homes while also helping others in need. During the fall Go Green Day event, A Wider Circle also hosts a fall food drive to provide for families around Thanksgiving and beyond.
A Wider Circle is near and dear to the hearts of both the Tamara Kucik Team and the Greater Washington area. Consider donating high-quality items like beds, dressers, housewares, and professional attire and accessories. Or, for a more hands-on approach, sign up for a volunteer slot or offer your professional services pro bono. A Wider Circle is so successful in part because of community engagement, so contact them to learn how to make a difference.
