Moving to Indian Spring

Updated: Sep 6, 2019

Indian Spring is nestled in the Four Corners neighborhood of Silver Spring, MD next to the Woodmoor neighborhood. This quaint community is bordered by the Capital Beltway to the south, University Boulevard to the west, St. Lawrence Drive to the north, and the Northwest Branch Anacostia River to the east. This little slice of Silver Spring contains about 800 Colonial-style single-family homes and is served by the Indian Spring Citizens Association (ISCA), which is located in Montgomery County, MD. The Indian Spring Citizens Association puts on events like neighborhood-wide street parties, yard sales, Fallfests, Holiday Tree lightings, and more.

Indian Spring is an established neighborhood in Silver Spring. Most of the homes in Indian Spring were built between 1940 and 1969 around the Indian Spring Country Club. The Silver Spring YMCA now sits atop what used to be the Indian Spring Country Club, where many residents of Indian Spring spend their time. Residents of the Indian Spring neighborhood enjoy a discount on their YMCA membership. Homes for sale in Indian Spring often have this advantage over competing homes in adjacent neighborhoods. And, what’s more than the beautiful tree-lined streets are the sense of community and camaraderie amongst neighbors. Beyond the organized ISCA events, neighbors are known for extending the invitation for potlucks and playdates alike.  While some of the older homes may be on the smaller side, most residents choose to live in Indian Spring because of the deep sense of community. Residents of Indian Spring are quick to share anecdotes about how neighbors can truly depend on one another, whether that be organizing a neighborhood event or quickly subbing in as an impromptu babysitter for a neighbor in need.

One of the main advantages of living in Indian Spring is access to an excellent school system. Montgomery County schools are consistently ranked as some of the best in the nation, and living in this charming community lends access to this excellent school system. Children of Indian Spring attend school at Highland View Elementary School, Silver Spring International Middle School, and Northwood High School. Another added advantage is access to the DCC (Downcounty Consortium) which allows students to choose a high school (space-permitting) that aligns with their preferred academic area of study. These choices include Montgomery Blair, Albert Einstein, John F. Kennedy, Northwood, and Wheaton.
